The Perth Mint is the last of several Australian colonial branches of the United Kingdom's Royal Mint, assigned to refine gold from the gold rushes in western Australia, to mint gold sovereigns and gold half-sovereigns for their shared monarch of the British Empire. Contributing to investment gold since establishment in 1899 The Perth Mint has consistently been producing hundreds of bullion investment coins, the most notable bullion contributions being the 1oz gold kangaroo series which has become a favourite to investors looking to buy investment gold.
One of the most astonishing bullion contributions from The Perth mint, is the Australian Kangaroo One Tonne Gold Coin, which was bestowed the title of the ‘largest coin’ in 2012 by Guinness World Records. The Perth mint still stands today at its original historical spot, on the corner of Hay Street in East end of Perth, Western Australia.
